BRB: kandicook.com

You may have noticed that kandicook.com is looking a little bleak these days.  Well, I’ve decided to completely re-do my website.  I code everything by hand (I think I used to have dreamweaver like, 8 years ago but you know how that goes… wish I could find that CD, I’d probably use it) so it’s a pretty big project considering I’ve already decided not to commit to anything else as I have no free time as it is.  Also: I know nothing about designing websites so obviously it’s an even bigger project than I am prepared for.  I have no idea what kind of  WYSIWYG editors are available or if I’d ever consider using one (I guess people use these?) and really don’t have the time or patience to research.

Just out of curiosity let’s see what the company hosting my website has to offer as far as WYSIWYG editing goes:

Hmm…. up to 10 pages?  Inadequate.
Flash Intro?  Cheesy.
Counter? Pathetic.
Guestbook? 90′s.
Flash Templates?  Barf.  Templates of any kind… vomit.
Photo Album? Undeniably lame.

I used to be all about some webdesign… but now… eh?  (shrugs shoulders).   Guess I’m on my own for this one.  I think I have a lot of reasons for taking this project on… one being that I have wanted to for a really long time now and the other day I  finally just cracked.  (Conclusion: being anally retentive wins over being lazy.)  And plus, the site just isn’t reflective of who I am or what my photography is about anymore- the design is all weird and inconsistent, which I sometimes thought was pretty cool, but now I’m craving fluidity.   My goal is to minimize and to simplify, which is much more natural to me.  I’m also trying to do some “spring cleaning” with all my files and as I’m going through everything I’m finding a lot of great stuff I don’t know if I can let go.  Kind of reminds me of cleaning out your closet.   If I find anything good, I’ll post it here.

Until then… cheers.

EDIT: Actually I’ll go ahead and post one thing I found tucked away: a snapshot I took of a guy because he reminded me of Steve Zissou:
