1. I’ve finally started making some progress on the new kandicook.com! I have a couple of pages up so far and I’m very satisfied with the look and feel of everything. (Think “simple”). It was taking me forever to figure out if I wanted to go back to the tiny stripe background (had it for a long time in 07 and 08) or not. I ended up going with a yellow-tinted gray (for many reasons) with dark charcoal type (Helvetica! My favorite). I am a big fan of black type on white, so it was hard to let that idea go. I played around with a few typefaces, I don’t think I could ever do a serif but I almost always mess around to see what one would look like… and it all came down to either Helvetica or ITC Franklin Gothic (don’t know how I came to like the latter but it ended up being a hard decision).

Ah, both are so beautiful! I am about a third of the way finished but feel like I’ve really gotten the hardest part over. I was also struggling over how to organize my photography… I had everything in chronological order but was thinking about categorizing (35mm, fisheye, hand-developed, infrared, digital, color, b&w, etc…) but I’m a little too lazy for that, and plus, I kind of like everything in the order it already was. Oh yeah, I’m coding it all by hand… which is tedious, yet so incredibly rewarding.
2. One place I tend to keep my knitting/crocheting projects is in one of the drawers in my coffee table (right next to the couch, super convenient!) There was so many tools and yarns unraveling in there it was on a downward spiral to complete dysfunction… so I organized it last week:

So many options to make baby booties out of…
3. Project 365 – A group of people (not sure how many, but at least three of us) are doing a 365 project of self-portraits. Yesterday was day 8 and I haven’t missed a day yet. I’ve always thought it would be fun to do a 365 (and have talked about it with my friend Brandi for a couple of years now I think) and am excited to actually be doing one! In 2008 I wrote down every single restaurant I ate at for entire year (anybody want the link?), so my confidence for staying committed to a long term project like this is pretty high.
4. A new website! Actually, it’s not an actual “website”, it’s a just wordpress… (I know, I’m ashamed to be associated with a template [as I should]) but MPM just needed something light and to the point… plus, putting together another big website is out of the question and our facebook group is doing a pretty good job of keeping everyone informed anyway. It’s http://www.photographymeetup.com – and it will hold information about MPM as it becomes available, and links to members’ photography, etc. Next meetup is JUNE 20th! I’ve never actually met Dr. Zibluk but know a lot of friends who were his students at A State, and he’s hosting this next meet up since I will be out of town! What a nice guy (and such an honor to have him join the group!)
5. Cross stitch. Man, that’s the most grandma thing I’ve ever tried. Actually, I used to cross stitch all the time when I was a kid (My grandma actually taught me!) But this was the first time I’ve tried crossing anything in like, 20 years. Katee and I always laugh about cross stitching awkward or ignorant phrases into pillows… and I thought it would be funny to do this classic phrase:

Ha! I thought of about a hundred things that I think would be funny to cross stitch. Who knows how many I’ll complete but I’ve been making patterns in my grid paper moleskin notebook for Etsy!
KC
i’m impressed on all fronts! i can’t wait to head over and check out the websites!
i’m also super jealous of your cross stitching! i keep meaning to try it, but then i get lazy.
it is so cool that Zibluk is doing MPM for you! he’s a great dude – you’ll really like him. hopefully he’ll call you “artsy fartsy” like he did me for so many years while he was my college advisor.
Cross stitching – add that to the list of things we’re doing when you come down to visit!
Dr. Z is a very active MPM member! He seemed very enthusiastic about getting the group together, I was so happy he said he would kind of be in charge for the next meet when I asked him. I hated to cancel just because I wouldn’t be available. I’ve heard so many good things about him I knew whatever ended up gonig down on the 20th would be totally awesome.
And I’d be honored to have Zibluk call me artsy fartsy! Ha!
