I was deeply saddened when I learned about the unexpected death of Jay Reatard last week. While I did not know him personally, knowing people who did and seeing him around Memphis pretty regularly definitely made it feel like he was a part of my life. I was a fan of his music and every time I got to see him perform it was always out of this world. I really don’t know what else to say, except he was pretty f***ing amazing and I’m going to miss him.
After the service this weekend I kept hearing his mom’s voice play over and over and over in my head, “My son was a legend in his own time”. And that he was. Rest in peace.
