Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day!

Tomorrow is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day!  I’ve only been going on and on about it all week month long.  <nerd alert> I am SO EXCITED about this. </nerd alert>.

I have an amazing Holga Pinhole camera that I received as a birthday gift last year, a handmade one from a friend that may or may not work, and am planning on building my own over the weekend with some friends.  Also planning on building a camera obscura- in your face!  This weekend is going to be a dream come true.

Some of my pinhole photography:: Sidewalk Pinhole (May 2009) and Gulf Pinholes (Summer 2009).  Does anybody have any WPPD plans?

  1. I made my Pentax K1000 into a sort of pinhole camera by removing the lens and covering it with aluminum foil! None of my results were very crisp, but I plan to try again and figure out how to make them better. I was so excited they turned out at all! It’s so neat to use aluminum foil with a hole in it as a lens when people put so much stock in having expensive equipment. Photography is so amazing!

  2. Yes! You’re so right about the equipment thing. For me personally, I use photography mainly as artistic expression- and all that expensive equipment really means nothing to me. A very long time ago someone told me it didn’t matter what kind of camera I had, it mattered what I could do with it. I’m so glad to know so many people who understand that and feel the same way. (whew).

AND- I think that’s so cool about making your old pentax into a pinhole. Juli did that with her Nikon last weekend for WPPD! She had some hardcore algebraic formula for making pinholes that way (you should ask her about it!). It seemed confusing at first, but made sense when she explained it to me.

    YAY PHOTOGRAPHY!
