Hoops + little canvases

I’ve been wanting to re-decorate the wall behind my couch for a couple of weeks now.  For the longest time the only thing I’ve had up behind there was a pretty large canvas I had painted.  I like it alright, but kind of wanted a change.   My roomie voiced his liking for the canvas so instead of moving it to another room in the house I decided to just add to the wall.  Here are some of the newbies:

Top:  SUKIE Cityscape ironed onto some yellow cotton fabric I already had.
Middle Left:  I made this- embroidered cloud with rainbow rain on a recycled tee shirt.
Middle Right:  I made this, too- cross stitch.  Funny.
Bottom:  This is one of the coolest things of all time… gotta get a photo of it by itself.  My friend did themes for Christmas presents this past year, and my theme was (drumroll…) HELVETICA!  One of my gifts was this (handmade) print of a quote from the documentary Helvetica (netflix it if you haven’t seen it).  It says, “You can say I love you in Helvetica, You can say it with Helvetica Extra Light if you want to be really fancy”.

Top Right: My friend Brandi painted this bird!  I love it so!
Bottom Left:  Painted/embroidered fox, I made this when I was obsessed with foxes after I saw one running around late one night.
Bottom Right:  House mini canvas (made this one, too).

And finally, this treehouse.  Because I totally live in one.  Another SUKIE iron-on, gray cotton fabric, cheap embroidery hoop.

MRR Photography Show @ Needles & Pens Gallery in San Francisco, CA

So, a few weeks ago I was asked to be in a photo show at Needles & Pens gallery in San Francisco!  N&P is having a photography show in conjunction with MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL’s photo issue that came out this month.  The show starts this Friday, February 12, 2010 and will run through mid-March.

{ Needles and Pens is located at 3253 16th Street in San Francisco, California.  They are open daily from noon to 7:00 PM, and the photo viewing is on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Their website is http://www.needles-pens.com.  }

I will have two photos in the show (both were taken at the Hi Tone cafe in Memphis, TN during Gonerfest 6) and will be donating 50% of my sales to MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL.  If you live in the SF area you should definitely check this out– there will be some really awesome photos there from some really awesome photographers!   I am very honored to be among them!

Blanket progress report

After a two week break from working on my granny square blanket I was able to buy some more yarn this weekend and get back to work.  Here are the 66 completed squares I have so far:

I have at least three more colors to border (to total 99 squares all together), but may end up adding more (or maybe not).  After I get all the black borders on I’m going to lay everything out, try to come up with a layout of some sort, and then go from there.

Also, if you went to the Hi Tone last Friday and paid any attention to the stamp they used on your hand, you might have noticed they used my crafty work (original post here).  My husband has been stamped with this before, but it was the first time I had been.  Cool.

Monotonix at the Hi Tone cafe in Memphis, TN, January 22, 2010

Photos from Monotonix at the Hi Tone last friday are here::   http://www.kandicook.com/2010/monotonix01222010.htmWow.

Big thanks to the dude who carried me over the tables to get me to the window so I could shoot the last song.  No thanks to the dude who grabbed my arm so hard it hurt for half the show.

Bird cross stitch

I took a little break from crocheting my blanket the last week and a half, (1.) because I ran out of black yarn… (2.) because I haven’t had time to anyway… and (3.) because I found an old project I had never even started on when I was going through some stuff the other day!

Yep.  It’s a bird.  Not my design… I saw something very similar on Etsy a few months ago and wanted to make one of my own when I was in a major cross stitching phase.  I had penciled-in a bunch of X’s on some handmade graph paper and that was about it until last week when I found this little gem hiding away.  The bird is about 4″ across and was a PERFECT weekend project… a busy weekend, even- and I’m a slow cross stitcher.
